For the fifth year in a row, Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute (Law, Politics, and Development – with a research focus on migration) and ASGI (Association for Legal Studies on Immigration) have organized a postgraduate training program on migration law and asylum. Registration is open until 31 August 2018.

This short course is designed to provide training in a research-active environment in the field of migration, asylum and refugee law to the highest academic standards. The program is aimed at lawyers, policy-makers, NGO workers, international agency staff, postgraduate students, interested in European Union asylum law and policy. As Italy currently faces the worst migration crisis since the world (more than 5 million non-EU citizens are living in Italy, due to the combined effects of the wars in Libya and Syria, and poverty in Africa), the global efforts of migration management and international protection are needed. The general rule in the EU is to limit undocumented migrants’ rights and use return. This does not mean neither that most migrants are expelled or that there are no possibilities to regularise, nor that irregular migrants do not enjoy rights. It simply indicates the rationale behind the law.

Classes will be held on September 10-15, 2018 (Summer School). Optional module on international protection of refugees will be held on October 25-27, 2018. Each session will delivered by experts in this specialized field. Sant’Anna School offers a discount on all courses for ASGI members and alumni of Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance formally certified by Sant’Anna School and CPD points for lawyers can also be accredited.

Participants can apply for the elective module on international protection of refugees until October 15, 2018.
